The Old Woman and the Sea

A year ago today, I stayed at Viking Nature Resort in Thailand, following my cousin’s wedding. On one of the mornings, I was confounded to see a woman in full clothing going into the water.

She stood in there, simply staring out into the sea, with the fishtail boats behind her, the crystalline waters and coconut fronds flanking her in a quiet lull. I read somewhere that moving water gives us humans a lot of peace, and can be a calming element. I wonder to what extent being inside a body of moving water would achieve this same goal.
